An evening with jazz on has a way of going later than you planned. Before dinner it might be bossa and bebop with not a word in between, and after midnight someone in Tokyo playing spiritual jazz to a bar that isn't ready to close. It runs from swing to free jazz, and every so often a horn comes in that makes you put down whatever you were holding.
