Disco, dub, and jazz from a shipping container in Hackney.
Mick Wallace started the station in December 2016 out of an empty room in Netil House, on equipment the team cheerfully admits was begged, borrowed or stolen. It launched properly in May 2017 after moving down to the market below, and went from two days a week to seven within six months. Wallace has directed it from the start, with Miro sundayMusiq and Tobias George on the schedule, and the roster has since run past two hundred residents — enough that almost nothing repeats from one week to the next.
Ecstasy Garage Disco, Plantasia and Unbound Riddims mark out the range: house, techno and garage against dub and soul, with jazz, downtempo and long ambient stretches in between, and a fair share of rock and folk out at the edges. Market days are programmed to suit the traders downstairs, so the harder records wait until the stalls come down and the roof has the evening to itself.
The whole neighbourhood gets a slot.
