New indie rock and post-punk, with Dutch bands up front.
IndieXL went on air on 5 October 2013, a private project of two indie fans, André Wit and Dennis van Leeuwen, and was formalised as the IndieXL foundation at the end of 2015. Wit brought a long radio past with him, from Amsterdam pirate stations in the early eighties to local broadcasters, along with the Free40, the alternative chart he has compiled every week since 2000. More than twenty volunteers keep the station going, and as a non-commercial station it carries no commercials.
Days run non-stop on new indie and alternative rock with older alternative songs mixed in, stopping only for the news on the hour. Evenings and weekends belong to presenters, among them Pim van Dongen's mix of old and new indie on Mondays and Rene Paymans' live Thursday show with interviews and fresh Dutch and Belgian releases. Dutch bands that mainstream radio ignores get a weekly showcase and their own chart.
Small labels, big volume.
