Shoegaze, dream pop, and the noise in between.
DKFM came out of the shoegaze rooms of turntable.fm, where a DJ calling himself Heretic spun Airiel and The December Sound for whoever showed up, until it became obvious that the music deserved a station of its own. He laid the groundwork at the end of 2011 and named it for the two halves of an envelope, sustain and decay. Live365 hosted it until new royalty rules killed that network in 2015; the broadcast desk has since moved from Fresno to Los Angeles to Brussels and finally to Toronto.
It plays shoegaze and everything adjacent — dream pop, noise pop, the classics you know, salted between bands making the sound now. New Tracks Weekend rounds up fresh releases, there are singles and album charts, a stack of podcasts including When The Sun Hits, and the station puts on festivals: DreamGaze in LA and San Francisco, Seagaze in Seattle, Kalamashoegazer at home.
The buzz is supposed to be there.
