Ambient drift and dubby club sets from Cork's DIY crowd.
éist, Irish for listen, grew out of Radio Solstice, a pop-up station three Cork artists ran from Test Site for the 2024 Cork Midsummer Festival. After one of its events that October, Elinor O'Donovan opened a call for anyone who wanted to make radio, about 25 people came along, and the new station launched that December with a party at Plugd Records on Cornmarket Street. Its studio sits on the shop's second floor, up a stair behind the counter, and the collective runs without fixed roles, settling most questions by a poll on Discord.
The founders decided early not to tell anyone what éist should sound like, so the grid goes wherever its members take it. Ambient hours are the most common thread, with plenty of house and techno from the city's DJs, trad and folk in between, and the odd talk or documentary hour. Regulars include Súgradh and The Groove Galaxy, and overnight the stream replays recent shows as éist san oíche.
Cork, tuned by whoever turns up.
