Two friends and record researchers, Icehead and Rafael Não Existe, worked out at an after-party in late 2023 that Rio de Janeiro had almost nowhere for electronic and alternative music that does not fit a dance floor. They spent the best part of a year on the answer and put maracutaia.fm online in August 2024. It is volunteer-run and unhurried by design: recordings happen only when the collaborators' diaries align, roughly once a month, and the archive fills the gaps in between.

Every show here belongs to someone. Vidadura runs a summer collaboration series, Walid VB digs on Geleia do Gringo, Mirim gives Impulso over to artists nobody has booked yet, and Régis Regi keeps Ex-Clubber do Ano going. Reduza handles the reggae and dub, while Label Profile takes one record label at a time and Maracutaia Profile one artist at a time.
