Eighties boogie and new jack swing, shoulder pads on.
Lesley Jones started Amsterdam Funk Channel in October 2010 from an attic room, with the whole station running off one PC that he still needed for work during the week, so at first it was on air only at weekends. He had been on Dutch radio since the 1980s and built AFC as a tribute to the funk and soul stations Amsterdam listened to back then. In September 2025 he took the presenters off to play music nonstop, announced the end a month later and changed his mind when listeners wrote in.
The rotation is soul and R&B from the eighties and nineties with funk running through it, heavy on new jack swing and boogie, with slow jams late in the evening and newer records made in the same mould. In October 2026 AFC joined up with The Finest Amsterdam, a station that had begun at AFC, and the two share one programme, with presenters Zar and Peter de Vries taking some evenings and a good part of Sunday.
Saturday night, any day of the week.
