Soul, funk and slow jams from São Paulo's baile DJs.
New Black SP puts the DJs of São Paulo's bailes black on the radio. The city's Black dance crews have been throwing those parties since the 1970s, and several of them now have a slot here. Equipe Black Side, on the go since the mid-1980s, has an evening show. The collective behind Clube dos 30 traces itself back to the baile crews of the seventies and has put on more than two hundred dances of its own. Others are collectors, among them a presenter who has been buying records since 1982 and a former Brazilian DMC champion.
Soul, funk and R&B from the seventies to the nineties carry the station, with quiet storm late at night under the banner of slow jams and disco never far away. The presenters also reach for samba-rock, old school hip hop and Brazilian rap, which is where the São Paulo accent comes through. Between the hosted hours the station runs its own selection, in the same key, around the clock.
The baile never really ended.
