Soul, funk and gospel from the artists labels missed.
Indie Soul Radio has one house rule, which is that the music stays soulful, jazzy, funky or faith-filled, with no profanity and no auto-tune. Gina Sedman, a soul singer who also publishes the magazine The Indie Post, founded the station, and her husband Andrew runs it with her. He is a percussionist who started out as a DJ and breakdancer in 1980s Britain and is known on air as DJ Prone. They built it for independent artists, who are invited to skip the middleman and send their songs straight in.
The playlist leans on independent soul and neo soul, with funk, jazz and gospel around it and older records worth another hearing. Prone opens the week with his Mixed Bag Show on Mondays. Michael K Amil follows on Tuesdays from Montreal, and Wednesdays bring Tina E's Smooth Jazz Weekend from Austin and Habaka's Bee Hive from Las Vegas. Prone also interviews the newcomers for a series called Under The Radar.
A mom-and-pop shop for new soul.
