House, disco and rare groove, one resident at a time.
Music Box Radio has been broadcasting from London since at least September 2016, when its first shows went up online, and it works out of a studio in Clerkenwell. It calls itself a collective of like-minded souls with a shared love of music, and more than seventy residents keep it going, many of them also playing out around the city, with the collective throwing its own parties in Shoreditch. Every live show is recorded and archived, and the archive has grown into thousands of sets.
House runs through most of it, from deep and tech house to acid, with techno, disco and soul close behind and a good deal of electro, breaks, dub and Balearic. Residents take two-hour slots through the week, plenty of them on vinyl, and the collective's own playlist carries the hours in between. Open format is the norm, so a show can drift from rare groove and jazz into broken beat or drum and bass.
Nobody polices the format here.
