Oldskool acid house and breakbeat, much of it on vinyl.
Fantasy FM first went out in August 1989, during the acid house summer, as a pirate on 98.6, 98.7 and 98.1 FM across London and the counties around it. By its own account it became the city's leading underground station for house, techno and rave, and it threw nights at the Astoria where thousands came to hear its DJs. In 1991 it left the dial to chase a legal licence on the Astra satellite through cable. It has since come back online, playing around the clock, and is run by its original boss, Foxy, known on air as The Mystery Man.
Its DJs, some from the pirate days and some newer, mostly play to that era. Steve RH sticks to house and techno from 1986 to 1992, Eazy E and Juwel pair up for Nu-Oldskool sets, and others take on jungle, breakbeat hardcore, hard house and drum and bass. Between shows a rotation of deep, soulful and vocal house keeps going, cut with old station jingles and a few early-nineties club hits.
For anyone who still has the flyers.
