Deep house with jazz chords and disco on its sleeve.
Leo Herrera opened Mad Radio in Medellín in 2017 as a vinyl bar and record store, with a booth that put whoever was playing the room on air. Rooms in Barcelona, Bogotá, Miami and New York followed, most of them with a booth and a channel of their own. Medellín got a second site in November 2024, when Mad Records opened in the Astorga neighbourhood: a café with playlists of its own, a lo-fi bar running vinyl and live sets, and a store stocking funk, disco, jazz and soul, which became a channel too.
Deep house carries most of the day here, the soulful kind, with jazz-inflected records and disco edits coming through often and the odd balearic one in between. On club nights, Wednesday to Saturday as a rule, the booth goes out live and the stream follows whoever is playing the room; between those nights it runs on a selection kept firmly in the same register.
Long records, low lights.
