Ambient, techno and experimental from a Philly shop.
Great Circles runs out of a single ground-floor unit on Frankford Avenue in Philadelphia, where the record shop, the studio and the station share an address and a sensibility. The shop stocks new electronic alongside jazz reissues and records from further afield; the label has reached its twenty-fourth catalogue number on vinyl, cassette and digital, and several of those releases are live recordings from Passages, the concert series the same people put on. None of it is separable from the rest.
The schedule is built from residents rather than playlists, more than thirty of them across some fifteen hundred broadcasts: Etants Donnes with Mario Cotto, Dissociated with Lady Prowl, This Green Earth with Carl Ritger, Full Circle with DuiJi13, Clubby Boy's Clubcast. The register runs ambient and drone through techno into noise, with dub surfacing on Every Spoil Is A Style.
One aesthetic, thirty ways in.
