Hooold...
Dusting off the needle…
Polish indie, art pop and the odd dub record.
Two campus wire radios merged to make it: Radio Kortowo, which had run at Olsztyn's agricultural and technical academy since 1954, and Radio Emitor, at the teacher-training college since 1969. Both closed in 1999, the university took a licence for 95.9 that December, and the combined station finally went on air on 23 June 2001. It started out calling itself Favourite, Credible, Urban, then swapped that for Believe in Music once the programming had made the choice obvious to everyone.
Its own account of the output is alternative music broadly: rock, metal, hip-hop, reggae, folk, electronica, blues, jazz and world music, plus ambitious pop. About half of any given hour is Polish, from young indie bands to Szczecin rap veterans, set against international art-pop, psychedelic rock and reggae classics. The newsroom invented the campus Belfer poll for favourite lecturer.
No politics, by house rule.
