All-region hip-hop, boom bap to modern drill.
Thugzone is a not-for-profit community station broadcasting around the clock from Toronto, and it has been running since at least 2009. It publishes almost nothing about its own founding, which fits the posture exactly: the station exists to put independent artists on air without commercial pressure, and the emphasis sits on the scenes it serves rather than on whoever happened to set it up. By its own count the audience runs past a hundred thousand listeners a month across the regions it covers.
The remit is regional breadth rather than any one city's sound — New South, West Coast lyricism, East Coast boom bap, Midwest, and Toronto's own — running from boom bap through conscious hip-hop out to drill and trap. Listeners can request tracks, submit their own, or take a slot as a guest DJ, which is not something that commercial hip-hop radio offers to anybody.
