Portuguese rap from inbox demos to chart singles.
Hip Hop Rádio came together in Sines in December 2016 and put out its first broadcast on 28 February 2017, the work of Daniel Pereira and Carolina Costa, who wanted Portuguese rap covered by people who actually listen to it. It is registered with the ERC as an internet-only service and remains the only station the regulator has licensed in Portugal for hip-hop culture alone, which is why the whole schedule answers to one scene instead of borrowing an hour a week from somebody else's.
Saturdays at nine, Carolina Costa's Radioativo works through the demos that land in the station's inbox and puts one artist forward each week. Sundays belong to N Códigos, where NTS pairs with a rapper from each of Portugal's eighteen districts and two island regions, one track a month. Between the shows the rotation stays mostly Portuguese, underground through mainstream.
Every district gets a verse.
