Indie rock with one ear always on the post-punk canon.
FIP autour du rock was one of six webradios FIP put online on 5 January 2016 for its 45th birthday, given rock and pop across the generations as its brief. It had become plain FIP Rock by November 2018, when the programmers released a double vinyl of the same name alongside jazz and electro editions, walking through rock history from the new-wave years to the bands of the day from London to Gascony. The webradio is put together the same way, every track chosen and placed by a person rather than a program.
Indie and alternative rock carry most of it, and close to half of what plays came out after 2010, but the older records are never far away. Post-punk and new wave turn up often, alongside seventies glam and art rock and a steady thread of sixties blues rock and psychedelia. Folk rock and indie pop soften things now and then, and the heavy end stops well short of metal, which FIP gives a channel of its own.
Guitars first, nostalgia optional.
