Eighties and nineties alternative, the records that stuck.
Pinguin Radio went online on 1 October 2011, five and a half hours after Kink FM's last broadcast, started by people who had worked at or listened to the Dutch alternative station. Classics grew out of it as one of the sister streams the foundation behind the station added for particular listeners, and it became the one offices and workplaces tend to put on. By late 2018 it had followed the main station onto cable, carried by KPN and then, from 1 October that year, in Ziggo's digital basic package.
The core is the alternative canon of the eighties and nineties, post-punk and new wave giving way to Britpop, grunge and the big American alternative bands, with Belgian and Dutch acts slotted in among them. Older art rock and blues rock fill the gaps and the odd trip-hop record slows things down, all of it familiar but picked by someone who clearly owns the albums.
Never beige, even on a Monday.
