Tørrer støvet af nålen…
Balearic downtempo from the bar that invented it.
The bar opened on 20 June 1980 at Caló des Moro in Sant Antoni, on a stretch of Ibiza coast that faces west, and Carlos Andrea, José Les and Ramón Guiral built the whole thing around that one fact. Lluis Güell designed the room so nobody had to turn around to watch the sun go down. José Padilla started playing there in 1991, mixing records to the hour the light changed, and when he compiled Volumen Uno in 1994 the tapes he had been selling to regulars became a genre other people could buy. The label followed in 1999.
Chill sits in the middle of three channels, with Calm below it and House above. What plays is downtempo built on balearic taste, so dub and nu-jazz and trip-hop sit next to slow house, and the station idents come round often enough to remind you whose room this is. On demand runs alongside, where Sundown Mix, Wind Down and Ibiza Sunset collect sets recorded at the bar, closing nights and all.
Golden hour, kept on tap.
