Onassis Stegi's dial: leftfield, ambient, Mediterranean.
The Onassis Foundation's Athens arts centre keeps a radio station, and it is not a side project: three channels running continuously, artistic direction handed to the Greek electronic musicians Voltnoi and Quetempo, a studio of its own and an archive past eight thousand shows. More than a hundred and sixty producers have made something for it. Beyond the stream it programmes the foundation's music seasons, the TAKEOVER and Borderline festivals among them, and puts on talks and workshops around the city.
This is the channel where the resident shows live. Efthymis Naoumis, a Greek musician and sound artist based in Berlin, works through his own collection on Efthymi's Archives; Invernomuto brings TRITON. The wider producer list gives some idea of the reach: Glasgow club veterans, Philadelphia free-jazz poetry, Tunisian club music, Kampala's leftfield labels and Athens' own experimental scene.
An arts institution, off-script.
