De naald wordt afgestoft…
Volunteer-run, ad-free, and permanently annoyed.
It started in 1978 as Radio Canut-Guignol, five minutes at a time from Croix-Rousse rooftops with a jerry-rigged transmitter, volunteers holding the antenna and lookouts watching the street. Police raided it that autumn and the fines followed. It merged into the city's free-radio collective, became Radio Léon, and when the 1981 liberalisation nudged the free stations toward advertising the militant half walked out and took the Canut name back. Authorisation came in June 1985.
Nobody is paid. Each show pays monthly dues instead, and the station takes no advertising, no sponsorship and no political party during an election. The grid runs Canut Infos and La bande son de nos révoltes beside Noise Pollution, long past its six-hundredth metal episode, Crucial Reggae Time, Dancehall Social Club and Musik etc. Its standing invitation: don't listen to us, join us.
Named for weavers who revolted.
