Roots and dub from Kingston, with rocksteady underneath.
Reggae came to FIP's webradios as a summer special. L'été reggae ran on the bouquet's rotating event channel through the summer of 2016 and did well enough that FIP brought it back for good on 5 January 2017, its 46th birthday, as FIP autour du reggae, since shortened to FIP Reggae. In 2020 the programmers also put out a double vinyl under the name, starting with rocksteady in Jamaica and finishing with a new generation of women in reggae after a long detour through the dub studios and West Africa.
Jamaica's sixties and seventies carry it, rocksteady and ska next to the roots records and the dub versions cut from them, with lovers rock for the gentler stretches and some early-eighties dancehall. Newer bands working the same roots and dub vein turn up all the time too, many of them French or British, and the odd French reggae record gets in from someone you might not expect.
Bass first, questions later.
