De naald wordt afgestoft…
Govanhill café radio, two hundred residents deep.
Suz O'Neill and David Fleming registered it as an asset-locked community interest company in June 2019 and built it into the room they were already running: Café Buena Vida on Victoria Road, a licensed kitchen and creative space in Govanhill. The roster has passed two hundred and fifty presenters, from selectors on their first show to musicians with international records behind them, and there is no charge to take a slot. A second channel carries remote and festival broadcasts.
Shows are welcome on one condition — nothing commercial or mainstream. What comes in instead is ambient and house in roughly equal measure, then techno, jazz, dub, disco, experimental and folk, with a standing invitation to music from the SWANA region, the Caribbean, Asia, Africa and South America. Workshops run alongside, and nights land at the Sub Club and the Rum Shack.
The bar is the studio.
