R2 PopR2 Pop

Of the R2 Extra channels this is the most literal: Raadio 2's own rotation, running continuously with the news, the presenters and the evening genre shows all taken out. It launched in 2021 in the first wave of web lists, alongside the rap and Estonian streams, and ERR bills it as fresh hits from Estonia and abroad mixed with familiar records from the 2000s. Nothing is announced, nothing is scheduled, and there is no point in the day at which the playlist stops to explain itself to anybody.

In practice that means current global pop stars next to Afrobeats-tinged chart singles, Scandinavian pop and local Estonian singers, with UK house and slick R&B holding the dance end. The edges are softer than a commercial Top 40 would allow: French art pop and wiry British indie both get through, and so does a Balearic remix of an eighties pop classic.
