Music made on Buchla, Serge and Eurorack systems.
Yan Pröfrock built Modular Station in Paris in 2020 as a radio given over entirely to music made on modular synthesizers. A video director for French television by trade, he bought his first gear in the 1980s, came to Eurorack in 2016 and went from there into DIY and circuit design; meeting Serge Tcherepnin, who designed the Serge system in the seventies, changed how he heard the whole thing. Tcherepnin is credited on the station as its godfather, which is less a joke than a description.
The main rotation keeps pieces to about fifteen minutes so the flow moves like ordinary radio, and the thematic hours do the deep listening: the Serge Hour, a Buchla hour, Philippe Petit's Early Electromix, Modular 404, and label shows from DIN Records and Flag Day. One afternoon can run from fifties tape pieces through West Coast patching to slow, hypnotic techno.
Patch cables, not presets.
