Metal to reggae, with campus news in between.
Student radio in Liège began in the early 1980s, when a chemistry student put Radio Sart-Tilman on air from a hall of residence with a mini-transmitter, two turntables and the university politely looking away; it folded in 1987. Seven years later another group revived the idea inside the student federation and named it after the 48, the bus that climbs to the Sart-Tilman campus. No frequency was going spare, so 48FM made programmes for other stations for years before taking 100.1 and, in 2021, a floor of the restored Grand Poste.
Forty-odd weekly shows come from students and volunteers who share no format: Pogo Loco plays metal made this century, Moha Soundsystem runs roots through ragga dancehall, Soul Container and New Wave hold Monday evening, and Salió el Sol and Tropicalement Votre take the Spanish-speaking and tropical end. A news bulletin lands at one o'clock every weekday.
