Hip hop, R&B and neo soul from the Third Ward campus.
The Vibe is the younger station at KTSU, the Texas Southern University broadcaster that has been on 90.9 FM in Houston since 1972. It launched in 2020 with a grant from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, led by the Houston radio veteran Benjamin "Madd Hatta" Thompson, and announced itself by taking over the main signal for Labor Day weekend. For three years it lived online and on KTSU's night hours. It got an HD channel of its own in 2023, and at the end of 2024 Houston Public Media began carrying it as well.
Hip hop and R&B make up most of the schedule, with neo soul in the late hours and a Caribbean and Afrobeats show in the mix. J. Xavier and Jessi host The Wake Up Call, Taylor Getwood follows with The Vibe University and Michele McKnight takes the afternoon drive. Two DJs have mix shows of their own. Because it sits on a campus, students help make it, and Houston artists are played next to the national names.
A campus station with street sense.
