Alt-rap, electropop, and guitars for the Czech under-30s.
Czech Radio launched it on 13 January 2006 as ČRo 4 — Radio Wave, a youth service handed 100.7 FM in Prague and a digital feed alongside it. The frequency lasted two and a half years: in August 2008 the broadcaster's own council forced director Václav Kasík to switch off the analogue transmitter, and 100.7 went to ČRo 2 instead. Listeners petitioned and demonstrated, and none of it worked. Radio Wave has been digital-only ever since — DAB+, satellite and the web — and it has outlasted nearly everyone who wanted it gone.
The playlist runs from rap and dance electronics through guitar alternative and pop to metal and hardcore, and the glass studio on Vinohradská puts bands on camera as well as on air for Radio Wave Sessions. Czeching, running since 2013, has a jury of sixteen European music professionals pick a Czech act each year and sends the winner to Eurosonic Noorderslag in Groningen.
Kicked off FM, never off the pace.
