Weimar's university lab radio: sound art and 48-hour shows.
bauhaus.fm has been the radio of the Bauhaus-Universität Weimar since December 1998, when it became the first university in Thuringia to hold a broadcast licence, and it belongs to the Chair of Experimental Radio under Nathalie Singer — the only degree programme of its kind anywhere in Europe. The studio in the Maschinenraum on Marienstraße is run as a laboratory rather than a station: radio plays, live transmissions, journalism and radio art, made by people learning to make them.
Grammophon der Zukunft, the Institute for Artistic Radiation and Slow Radio hold the regular slots, semesters end in broadcast marathons that run for days at a stretch, and there is a bauhaus.fm Rundfunkorchester for when a show turns out to need one. It streams around the clock and takes over the 106.6 MHz frequency once a week, on a licence that runs to 2028.
