Jazz, ska, and rare soul from the mod scene's inner circle.
Totally Wired Radio went on air in April 2019, put together by Acid Jazz — the east London label — and Fred Perry, the mod clothing brand. The name comes from the Totally Wired compilations that label boss Eddie Piller assembled with his original partner Gilles Peterson, a series that built its reputation on refusing to stay in one genre. The station inherited that, and the audience found it unassisted: no marketing budget, roughly 200,000 listeners, heard in seventy per cent of the world's countries.
The DJs are specialists, and the list of what they specialise in runs long — jazz and jazz-funk, ska and 2 Tone, reggae, library music and soundtracks, bruk, gospel, rare R&B, psych, disco. Shows arrive from Peru, Serbia, Iceland, Brazil, Finland and a dozen places besides. Piller's stated aim for all of it is modest enough: to improve lives, one show at a time.
Sharp suits, sharper records.
