Munich's 8-to-midnight radio, Balearic to techno.
Radio 80000 has been going since April 2015, non-commercial and run by the people who fill its schedule — DJs, producers, journalists and record obsessives — out of a studio on Dachauer Straße in the north of Munich that anyone is welcome to walk into and sit in. It marked ten years with a 52-hour livestream, took over a shopfront on Buttermelcherstraße for a month, and spent half of 2024 running radio workshops at the Haus der Kunst. An awareness team and a code of conduct sit behind all of it.
A single week carries well over a hundred different shows, which is what a volunteer grid looks like when nobody is gatekeeping it — Balearic Disorder and Sued Nord Connection alongside EDITION KLASSIK, 30000 Kräuter, oyna oyna and A Blaze In The Southern Sky. Roughly a quarter of those hours go out live from the room, and the rest were made by someone who wanted them made.
