Slow jams, street rap and soulful house on 90½ FM.
MRS, short for music radio service, has been on the air in Stockholm since October 1980 and is still run by volunteers, independent of any network. It broadcasts on 90.5 FM to the city and its suburbs and describes itself as the only urban contemporary station in Sweden. Its longest-running show, Soul Underground, started in March 1996. DJ Jens Dünkelberg still presents it through Saturday night into Sunday morning, playing new hip hop and R&B from vinyl, and it has kept that slot for some thirty years.
Weekdays run on R&B jams with soul, funk and disco classics, picked by Gagarin Miljkovich. The weekend belongs to house. Soulful Evolution fills Friday night with mixes from Leeds, and Saturday brings Stomp's soulful house and garage, deep house from Tuscany and Nightshade Sessions from Johannesburg. Thursday nights slow down for Heavystorm, a quiet storm show from Tampa, and Fridays make room for Made In Brazil.
Nobody else up north does this.
