Chanson à texte to new French pop, never in English.
FIP opened Sacré français ! in 2023 as its eleventh webradio and the first given over to songs in French, alongside a new volume of its Discothèque idéale record series, a double vinyl that came out that September under the same name. The record set the scope for the channel too, francophone, Creole, African and Canadian music drawn from recordings made between 1937 and today, chosen by FIP's own programmers in Paris. The station's tagline calls it the favourite webradio of Francophiles and Anglophobes.
The older side runs from post-war chanson à texte and sixties yé-yé through the French rock and synth-pop records of the eighties, but about half of what plays comes from the last fifteen years, newer singer-songwriters a lot of listeners won't have met yet. Jazz-leaning crooners turn up often, and the odd Creole or Québécois song keeps the channel from settling in Paris for good.
Sentimental, but it knows it.
