Cold synths and darkwave, chosen by hand in Lima.
Synthetika started in Miami in October 2001 and later moved to Lima, with relay servers in Frankfurt and London to reach everywhere else. The brief has not moved since the first day: independent synthpop, futurepop, EBM and darkwave, aimed principally at Latin America, where those scenes have never had much radio of their own. Bands anywhere in the world can send material in through a form, though the station is candid that anything falling outside its line simply goes unanswered.
An hour of it runs American futurepop into Dutch gothic darkwave, then synthpop from Athens, Germany, Sweden and California — Greek, German, Swedish and American acts sitting together because the sound matches rather than the passport. The playlists carry names like Heavy Rotation, and nothing ever strays outside the seven genres the station will admit to.
Miami 2001, Lima ever since.
