Dusting off the needle…
Post-punk, coldwave, and minimal synth, obscure by choice.
XWave Radio has run since January 2005, put together by a handful of contributors rather than owned by anyone, and it has stayed independent and non-profit ever since. The station tells its own story as a transmission from a parallel dimension, arriving here through a wormhole, but underneath the conceit sits a plain remit: the new wave era of the late 70s and early 80s, and every mutation that came out of it. There is no studio address to speak of, because the hosts broadcast from wherever they happen to live.
Eight residents split the week between Europe and North America — Maddox in Antwerp with five thousand vinyls of minimal wave and avant garde, Ze Dark Dude in Isère drilling post-punk classics and themed cold-wave blocks, Minigeorge in Athens on minimal and little else, Monomane in Québec on synth punk and batcave. Sets run to a theme, and new records get reviewed and their makers interviewed.
The 80s, minus the hits.
