Indie pop with sixties sunshine still in its hair.
FIP Pop was the eighth channel in FIP's webradio bouquet and the first new one in three years, put online on 17 June 2020 in time for the Fête de la musique. FIP pitched it as the best of pop programmed by hand, with the same exacting standards as everything else it runs, and the channel's own line maps the ground from indie rock to synthwave and from Britpop to the French scene. Like its siblings it runs without presenters or advertising, one track handed to the next by the same programmers who shape the main station.
Nearly two-thirds of what plays came out after 2010, a third of it in the 2020s alone, so this is mostly indie pop as it sounds now, with art pop and psychedelic pop close by and a fair amount of it French. The sixties keep a foothold through Californian harmony pop and the big British songwriting records, and the eighties drift back in on synth-pop and the odd art-rock single.
Hooks first, cool second.
