Neo soul and smooth R&B with an Atlanta house pulse.
Slo*Mo Radio came out of Slo*Mo Media, an Atlanta collective that has written about the city's soul scene since 2013 in print, online and through its own live nights. It went on air in August 2021, programmed by the collective's founders, the designer, DJ and producer Larmarrous Shirley and Carlton Hargro, a longtime editor who once ran the alt-weekly Creative Loafing. Atlanta had been home to a great deal of celebrated soul for decades without a station given over to it, so they built one and filled it only with music made by the city's own.
There are no presenters, just a rotation that runs around the clock on records by Atlanta singers, players and producers, picked by hand across the city's past and present. Neo soul and silky R&B sit at the centre, soulful house remixes by local DJs come through regularly, and Chante LaGon, the collective's content director, voices the spots between tracks.
Hometown pride, played low and slow.
