Broadcast from a Soho shopfront, window and all.
Soho Radio started in 2014 at 33 Broadwick Street and has not moved since, working out of a ground-floor room off the pavement with a second studio in New York feeding the same stream. It carries more than 250 shows a month and runs none of them to a playlist — the presenters choose everything that goes out, and there is no house format sitting underneath any of it. Mixcloud's Online Radio Awards named it the best online station in the world only two years in.
The roster is largely musicians. Norman Jay MBE has Good Times From Home, James Lavelle and Groove Armada's Tom Findlay hold slots, and so do Dennis Bovell and Primal Scream's Simone Marie, with Harry Shearer's Le Show and Mwalimu Express alongside them. The Vinyl Sessions record artists live in the room — Hak Baker, Corto.Alto, Jasmine Myra.
