Rare soul, dub techno, and industrial on one bill.
Noods began in Bristol in 2015 as a Sunday-morning session, people playing records to each other, and grew into something that runs day and night with hosts scattered well past the city. It has had a front door since 2021: Mickey Zoggs, the café and bar it opened on Cheltenham Road, which doubles as the station's home. There is no playlist and no advertising — the place runs on its listeners, through donations and a membership scheme called Luvers, and it puts money back into young Bristol creatives.
What that produces is hard to summarise and easy to recognise. One week in September ran Frank Silva's Phantasmagoria through fourth world, spiritual jazz and chamber music; Shadazz through post-punk, steppas and dub; Quiet Music through downtempo, folk and prog rock; Scattered Wits through avant-garde techno and IDM. Its own genre index runs to a dozen families, Ethiopiques to gqom.
Misfits with immaculate records.
