De naald wordt afgestoft…
Doom, sludge, thrash — riffs like tectonic plates.
Metal Detector joined SomaFM in 2015, fifteen years after Rusty Hodge turned a micropower transmitter he had run at Burning Man into a full-time internet station in February 2000. Left Coast 70s and Fluid arrived the same year, which gives some idea of the network's range. It is by some distance the heaviest thing SomaFM runs, and it exists at all because the network lives on listener donations and has never had an advertiser it could stand to lose over it. Nothing here has been softened for a wider audience.
The rotation runs from thrash and doom through death metal, black metal and grindcore — Onslaught, Ulthar, Hellripper, Molder and Cripple Bastards all appear — mixing the genre's classics with new releases. SomaFM's own channel note warns that the music may cause permanent aural damage, which reads less as a joke than as a specification.
Subtlety was never invited.
