Eighties steel and modern thrash, deep cuts first.
Aardschok is the Dutch hard rock and metal magazine that two classmates, Metal Mike van Rijswijk among them, started in October 1980 as thirteen photocopied pages, and Pinguin's heaviest stream carries its name. Van Rijswijk presents a weekly Aardschok Radio show on Pinguin's main channel too. The stream itself is where the station sends what its own description calls the real heavy stuff, too hard for On the Rocks, and it was among the first streams back on air after a crash in Pinguin's systems in June 2017.
Eighties heavy metal and hard rock sit beside thrash and the melodic end of death metal, with power, progressive and symphonic metal all getting regular turns, the Dutch symphonic bands among them. A large share comes from newer and smaller bands from across Europe, the Netherlands and Belgium included, and the genre's big names turn up far less often than you might guess.
