De naald wordt afgestoft…
Maribor's student radio: noise at dawn, rap, Balkan nights.
A society formed to support it put the station on air in Maribor in 1990, funded through that first decade by the Open Society Institute, the Dutch embassy and the Westminster Foundation for Democracy. Unresolved ownership disputes cost it the FM licence between 2000 and 2003, and it kept broadcasting over cable and the internet until 95.9 came back in September 2003. A couple of paid staff and a rotating crew of volunteers keep it going on municipal culture grants that the city moved to cut in 2023.
Grajnd budnica is a short grindcore alarm clock to start the week; Atentat na sluh covers punk, hardcore and crust; Flava in Ya Ear, Balkan: Validated and Concrete Jungle Radio carry rap and bass music; Peskovnik digs through synths and deep bass lines, and a daily dose of workers' history runs beside the music. Every year since 1995 the station has given an award to the most original rock band.
Still marching, since 1990.
