De naald wordt afgestoft…
Jazz, ambient and avant-garde from 92. 1 in Perth.
It went to air on 1 April 1977 as 6UWA, the first FM signal in Perth, run out of the University of Western Australia; Murdoch joined in and the call sign became 6UVS. In November 1990 the UWA Senate voted to shut it down and the transmitter went off the same night. It stayed dark six months while the broadcasting authority held hearings, then came back as RTRFM: Universities Radio Ltd re-formed as Arts Radio Ltd, no longer anyone's to close, and on 92.1 throughout. It has traded on the line Since '77 ever since.
A small paid staff and several hundred volunteers run it, funded by subscriptions and a steady calendar of live events, broadcasting from Whadjuk Nyoongar Boodjar where sovereignty was never ceded. Breakfast covers folk to punk in one sitting, Out to Lunch runs from indie pop to out-there experimentalism, and Full Frequency takes club and electronica with guests.
Difficult listening, encouraged.
