Eeeven...
De naald wordt afgestoft…
Sound art and tape collage, around the clock.
Extra arrived thirteen years after the FM station and went the other way about it: launched on Brighton DAB in 2015 rather than in London, and handed to Peter Lanceley to programme on his own terms. Where 104.4 gives most of its hours over to speech, this one keeps nearly all of them for music and sound. It has since spread onto DAB in London, Bristol, Cambridge and Norwich, so the seaside channel has come to reach more of the country than the London parent it was spun out of.
Lanceley calls it the more radical alternative to the radical alternative, which is a fair account of a schedule carrying Bob and Roberta Smith's Make Your Own Damn Music, Dennis De Caires on Australian outsider records, and Ilia Rogatchevski's post-rave ambient morning sessions. Long stretches of the day go out with no presenter on them whatsoever.
Difficult, and proud of it.
