RARARADIO runs on themed days and a rule that anyone can pitch: no experience needed, every show on a four-week cycle, the microphone handed to whoever turns up with an idea. Some eighty programme makers work that way, rotating through the month. It is a volunteer-run foundation, and it moved off subsidies onto small monthly contributions from listeners — the grants carried the early years but came with paperwork and side obligations that kept pulling the station away from making radio.

Each day has its theme. Liberation Radio takes one for r&b, soul, hip-hop and reggae, Het Laboratorium another for experimental work; one day goes to local issues and activism, one digs out niche genres, and one is for party sets. The deep-electronics day runs techno, hardgroove, electro, deep house, drum and bass, jungle, breakcore and dubstep, back to back.
