Ska, flamenco and techno from Valencia's seafront.
Ràdio Malva broadcasts on 104.9 from a ground-floor room on Carrer Barraca in the Cabanyal, and gives its patch as the sea villages of Valencia — the fishermen's quarters strung along the beach — with the galaxy thrown in. The licence rounds the Generalitat has run were written for commercial operators, and the station's own account is that community radio has been left in a legal vacuum, so it occupies the frequency instead of waiting for one. Everything else is settled at an assembly on the first Tuesday of the month.
Thirty-odd programmes share the grid, and the music runs deep where it runs. Hard Cuore has run to hundreds of episodes taking one song apart at a time, Estonian sacred minimalism one week and flamenco without borders the next; BOP STREET works fifties-to-eighties rock, BPM covers techno, Latinoamérica Sonorosa the continent. The station puts its own programmes out under Creative Commons.
Nobody gave them permission.
