Dub techno, jungle and house from a record shop.
Kindred is a record and art shop at 15 Mount Pleasant in Clerkenwell that two long-time friends, Jojo and Scarlet, run as a radio station as well. The broadcast keeps to one day a week — the Tuesday the shop itself is open — and runs the length of an afternoon into the evening: six hour-long slots handed to a different guest each time, played out of the room the records are sold in rather than a studio somewhere else. Every set goes into an archive afterwards, filed under the DJ who played it.
A recent Tuesday ran Xilla, Kose, Tsemb, Lora S, Braiden and Bianca Oblivion back to back. The archive shows what that means in practice: dub techno and downtempo turning up as often as house, with jungle and dubstep on the harder hours and garage and minimal filling in around them. Nothing sits still for a season, because the guest list changes every week.
Tuesdays, when the shop's open.
