Eeeven...
De naald wordt afgestoft…
Garage, free jazz and metal, all on the same dial.
The station first went out on 22 February 1982 as Radio Kerango(ff), became Radio Quartiers Brest the year after, and settled on Fréquence Mutine in 1984. It has broadcast from a neighbourhood community centre in the Bellevue-Kerinou district ever since, on 103.8 FM, and still builds its studios out of second-hand gear sourced locally. France Culture made a portrait of it in 2002, and a Breton magazine marked its fortieth year by calling it a pirate station still. Backing the music coming out of its own corner of Brittany is the stated point.
Monday alone carries metalcore and djent on XTRM, free jazz beside sixties garage and power pop on Baroque Bordello, and an hour in which Riccardo pulls one record off the station shelves and follows it down into experimental music. Elsewhere there is Chicago deep house at dawn, two hip-hop shows, reggae, and a Beatles programme forbidden from playing an official Beatles recording.
Runs on salvage and stubbornness.
