De naald wordt afgestoft…
Bay Area up-and-comers, played before anyone's heard them.
BFF.fm — Best Frequencies Forever — went on air in September 2013, online only, from a studio in San Francisco's Mission District. Amanda Guest built it as a way in for Bay Area DJs who had no other route to a microphone, and it has stayed a non-profit with no commercial airtime to sell and no signal to protect. The city noticed quickly: SF Weekly readers voted it the best radio station in San Francisco seven years running, and 48 Hills has kept it in Best of the Bay for most of the decade since.
About 115 volunteer DJs fill the week, and the station's own genre index says what that adds up to: freeform, garage, psych, soul, hip-hop, experimental, world and talk, plus a category simply called local. Submissions come straight from Bay Area bands, the request line rings into the Capp Street studio, and no hour is programmed by anything other than the person in the chair.
Friendship with a frequency.
