De naald wordt afgestoft…
Indie rock and the sharper end of alternative.
BAGeL Radio started life in late-90s San Francisco as an email — a gig list a group of friends passed round so nobody missed tickets for the bands they cared about. It grew past a thousand recipients, acquired the name Bay Area Gig eList, and in February 2003 the acronym came along with it when Ted Leibowitz turned the whole thing into an internet radio station. He still runs it single-handed, doing the programming, the engineering, the writing and everything else his own credits list at length.
What airs is indie and alternative rock with the edges left on — one week of spins runs to Yard Act, Dinosaur Jr, Ty Segall, Kiwi Jr and Cheekface, and the station publishes its own airplay charts every week. The long-running show is 480 Minutes, an eight-hour block, and Sundays go over to reruns pulled from an archive that stretches back a full decade.
One man, since the email list.
